3-2-1 TUESDAYS WITH MS NIV

Issue #80, 18th January 2022

Self acceptance, family acceptance, social acceptance. Not all three always coincide! How are we similar and how are we different? which of us has special needs and which ones amongst us has regular needs? are we unique or dis-similar? What are our vertical identities? which are our horizontal identities? Some questions that as educators and parents we face everyday. How should we deal with special people? What should our behaviour be with our special students and/or children? Some very interesting thoughts you would find in this issue that I have put together to help all of us to think about. We are all special isn’t it, in some ways and more…We need diversity of affection in a fragmented world. Love, no matter what. Don’t miss Andrew Solomon’s powerful and heartwarming talk in this issue.

Two Thoughts of the Week

“Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way.”

― George Evans.

“The highest result of education is tolerance.”

― Helen Keller.

One Video of the Week

Every child is different and regardless of what these differences may be, whether a child is differently abled, homosexual, a prodigy or even a criminal, a parent’s love for that child is unconditional, according to Andrew Solomon.

Andrew conducted a series of interviews with parents who had a child living with disabilities or was different in some way. In this TEDTalk, Andrew is able to effectively capture the joy and personal fulfilment parents raising children under extraordinary circumstances feel. The true power and emotion of the unconditional love parents give to their children is further presented through the selfless wish for their children with special needs to live easier instead of the parents themselves birthing a child in different circumstances.

This talk truly captures the true emotion and love dedicated to parenting a child with special needs.
